The BestVox LS5/9 is a two-way bass reflex monitor built to the BBC LS5/9 design (BBC R&D 1983/10). It pairs a 210 mm woofer with a 34 mm tweeter, in a 9 mm birch plywood cabinet with cherry veneer. Price is for a pair of speakers.
A BBC design for any kind of music
The BBC developed the LS5/9 in the early 1980s as a studio monitor, smaller than the LS5/8. It was built to play at studio levels with little colouration, so classical and pop recordings both come through as they were mixed.
It doesn't sound strained when you turn it up. The centre image is well defined, vocals stay natural, and each instrument keeps its place in the soundstage.
Several manufacturers have built the LS5/9 over the years. BestVox builds its version to the original BBC design.

LS5/9, LS3/5A or LS3/6?
- LS5/9: two-way, bass reflex, 210 mm woofer, 460 mm tall, 50 Hz–20 kHz, 87 dB.
- LS3/5A: two-way, sealed, 110 mm woofer, 305 mm tall, 70 Hz–20 kHz, 83 dB. Made for small rooms.
- LS3/6: three-way with a super tweeter, 630 mm tall, 42 Hz–20 kHz, 88.5 dB. Deeper bass again.

Our No. 594 stand is made for the LS5/9. Its top plate is 280 × 280 mm, for the speaker's 275 × 285 mm base, and the standard height is 580 mm.

How is the LS5/9 different from the LS3/5A?
The LS5/9 is the bigger speaker. It has a 210 mm woofer instead of 110 mm and a bass reflex port instead of a sealed box. It reaches 50 Hz rather than 70 Hz and is more sensitive (87 dB against 83 dB), so it plays louder and suits a larger room.
Which stand fits the LS5/9?
Our No. 594. It is made only for the LS5/9, with a 280 × 280 mm top plate and a 580 mm standard height.
