The BestVox M5 is a two-way bookshelf monitor inspired by the LS3/5A. It uses a BBC-style thin-wall cabinet, a 110 mm polymer-cone mid/bass driver and a 25 mm ferrofluid-cooled tweeter. It measures 190 × 306 × 165 mm (W × H × D). Price is for a pair of speakers.
Cabinet
The cabinet follows the BBC thin-wall principle. The panels are allowed to resonate in a controlled way, a little like a musical instrument, which gives voices and acoustic instruments a natural body.
Inside, multi-layer damping keeps those resonances from colouring the sound. The same real-wood veneer is applied to the inner and outer surfaces to balance the panels.
Drivers and sound
The 110 mm (4.3") mid/bass driver has a polymer cone. The 25 mm tweeter is ferrofluid-cooled. Together they give a warm, smooth and detailed sound. Vocals and strings are where the M5 does best.
Each pair is hand-matched for sound and appearance.
Amplifier
The M5 is an 8 Ω speaker with 83.5 dB sensitivity (2.83 V / 1 m) and 30 W power handling.
M5, M3, LS3/5A or M7?
- M5: 110 mm mid/bass, 25 mm tweeter, 8 Ω, 70 Hz–22 kHz, 306 mm tall.
- M3: smaller and simpler, with a 98 mm mid/woofer and 19 mm tweeter. A 4 Ω speaker for desks and shelves.
- LS3/5A: the BBC small monitor that inspired the M5. Sealed, 110 mm woofer, 19 mm tweeter, 11 Ω or 15 Ω, almost the same size.
- M7: a 170 mm woofer for deeper bass (52 Hz) and 86 dB sensitivity. For larger rooms.

How is the M5 different from the LS3/5A?
The LS3/5A is built to the BBC design: sealed, with a 19 mm tweeter and an 11 Ω or 15 Ω load. The M5 is a newer design inspired by it, with a 25 mm ferrofluid-cooled tweeter and an 8 Ω load. The two are almost the same size.
